Kinderdorf Bottrop Kindergarten in Kembujeh, West Coast Region last Saturday celebrated its forty-years anniversary at a colourful ceremony held at the school in Kembujeh.

Established in 1985, Kinderdorf Bottrop Kindergarten is an Early Childhood Development Centre with about 500 pupils.

At the event,  Pa Arona Jagana, headmaster of Kinderdorf Bottrop Kindergarten spoke of his institution’s commitment and ambition to further working for the welfare of the children by opening more opportunities for them to access childhood education and development.

"As the collaboration continues with our Bottrop partners in Germany, the sky the limit when it comes to child development." he said.

He recalled that for the past 40 years, the school has been rendering holistic and intellectual foundation to children by nurturing them to become responsible and resourceful adults.

"40 years today, we supported tens of thousands of children who acquired and developed mental, social, emotional and physical skills for a better life. In the past 40   years, we have improved the environment, which allowed children to explore and experiment to discover and develop their own capacities," he said.

Jagana pointed out that within 40 years the school provided a two-way free transport service daily for the children; promoted healthcare through simple first aid service; the school had built Kindergarten Mechede 1 in Sanyang village; built Jambur Community Nursery School and among numerous other projects.

He said over the past 40 years with support from the German partners the Bottrop project has been complementing the government's efforts through supporting certain public institutions such as the National Youth Council (NYC) Brikama office, Gambia Red Cross Society, Brikama Police Station, Brikama Area Council (BAC) and among others.

He thus commended his German partners for their continued sponsorship and support for the past 40 years.

Klaus Botzet, ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to The Gambia, said Bottrop partners have been supporting the kindergarten school since 1985 to enhance teaching and learning in the school.

However, he assured that the Bottrop partners would continue to support the school.

Wolfgang Gerrits, chairman for the Kindergarten Bottrop project, said the project would obviously benefit Gambian children in generations to come.

The partnership between the Kindergarten Bottrop project and his team, he added, would continue and be enhanced for the development of the institution.

Speaking on behalf of the parents, Yahya Jammeh, commended the school management and teachers for their hard work toward the children.

"The parents are happy and grateful to the school as a result of the commitment of the management and teachers towards childhood education and development," he said.
