Prime Minster Sonko made this assurance recently as he officially attended the annual religious gathering commonly known as “Daakaa’.
The ‘Daakaa’ initiated over seven decades ago by the late Halifa General, Alhagie Muhammad Saidou Ba, who is the founder of Madina Gounass, has become a one of the popular religious gatherings attended by tens of thousands of Muslims in recent past.
After the demise of the late Halifa General, Alhagie Thierno Ahmad Tidian Ba, succeeded him, who is now the current Halifa General of Madina Gounass. However, the ten-day event attracts tens of thousands of Muslims from all over Senegal and beyond.
At the event, Prime Minister Sonko informed the gathering that his attendance was to extend president’s best greetings and equally seeking prayers “duah” from the Halifa General and to further assure him of government’s full support.
Giving significance to this annual event, Senegalese PM Sonko noted that in such a gathering attended by thousands of worshipers from various countries, it is a top priority for the government to play a significant role in ensuring security for the safety of all throughout the entire period.
“The President says that his is all ears with the intention to make sure that the government will increase its performance by playing its pivotal role in ensuring the effective hosting of the annual Daaakaa,” he explained.
He added; “President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has the believe that the Halifa General’s good work and representation it not limited to Senegal as a country, but goes beyond,” Sonko continued.
To this end, Senegalese PM spoke of his admiration for the Halifa General and that they respect and love him, describing him as their leader, who plays a significant role in propagating Islamic religion societies and for which ‘government is so proud of him.”
Responding, Halifa General, Alhagie Thierno Ahmad Tidian Ba, thanked the Senegalese government for all their support towards the ‘Daakaa.’
Commenting on the geographical space of Senegal with its small size compare to other countries, the grand marabout said Senegal is blessed with this “Daakaa” which was built on strong pillars by good men, who were closed to Allah.
To this end, he urged the people to embrace the ‘Daakaa’, adding that it is a blessing from Allah.
Speaking earlier, Alhagie Thierno Ibnou Oumar Ba, a brother to the Halifa General expressed excitement to receive the Senegalese Prime Minster in their midst at the ‘Daakaa’.
He returned gratitude to Allah for the blessings the country, something he said, is an indication their prayers have been answer.
He used the gathering to share some values as people, reminding that leaderships go with shared responsibilities.
Ibnou Omar Ba further thanked Prime Minister Sonko and President Bassirou Faye for their firm stands in all affairs related to the ‘Daakaa’ and prayed for the smooth governance and safety of the nation and beyond.
