The commendation came on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, during a dialogue with security officials at the Farafenni Customs Post Conference Room as part of CDS Gomez’s ongoing nationwide tour of military deployments.
The meeting brought together various security service sectors from both The Gambia and Senegal.
Giving his briefing, Mustapha Jeng, Customs Manager at Kerr Ali Border Post, said Farafenni is currently The Gambia’s highest revenue-generating border post.
In 2025, the post collected about D770 million, he noted, attributing the success to cooperation between Customs staff and all security agencies.
He described the presence of The Gambia Armed Forces as “invaluable,” saying most collections were in cash due to GAF’s security at the post.
Mr. Jeng added that GAF conducts extensive patrols along border lines, helping to curb smuggling through diverted routes.
He further noted that Gambian and Senegalese security services maintain excellent working relations to ensure tight border security.
On the Senegalese side, Lieutenant de Police Cheikh Sambou of Keur Ayib highlighted the smooth relations between the two countries through joint operations.
Despite daily challenges, he said, both sides tackle them professionally through cooperation.
Responding to the concerns raised, CDS Gomez underscored the importance of peace between the two sister countries.
“Despite the geographical boundaries, the people of the two countries are of the same families who share the same religious practices and cultures,” he said.
While applauding the positive collaboration, the CDS urged both sides to maintain and further strengthen the partnership. “No single security sector can handle all security matters alone,” he stated.
“Through effective collaboration we can help travelers to smoothly cross the borders on either side of the countries.”
