2 Senegalese convicted for forging banknotes

The Brikama Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate K.B. Sambou  has recently convicted and sentenced Hadim Njie and Alieu Ngum to pay a fine of 10, 000 dalasis each in default to serve six months in prison. 

The Senegalese nationals were charged on two counts.

During the trial, they both initially pleaded not guilty to the charge of ‘conspiracy to commit felony and purchasing forged bank notes.’

ASP Sawaneh and corporal M. Badjie represented the Inspector General of Police during the trial.

In their plea for mitigation, the duo told the court to exercise justice with mercy on the ground that they are first time offenders. 

In delivering his judgement, Magistrate K.B. Sambou acknowledged that he heard the accused plea for mitigation, but  despite that their actions   are  “uncalled-for.”

“I would  exercise justice with mercy for the fact that you  do not waste the court's time and you are   hereby  sentenced to  pay a fine of D10, 000 each   in default to serve a custodial term of six months  in prison.”

The prosecution made an application for the two accused to be deported to Senegal. 

 

The presiding Magistrate granted the prosecution application for the two accused to be deported to  their country of origin.
