Addressing the Permanent Secretaries, VP Jallow reaffirmed Government’s commitment, under President Adama Barrow, to strengthening the civil service and modernising public service delivery to meet the evolving needs of the people.
He called for renewed commitment to accelerate flagship projects under the Recovery-Focused National Development Plan (RF-NDP), stressing that timely and effective execution must remain at the centre of their efforts.
“The National Development Plan, YIRIWAA, is not merely a statement of intent. It is a strategic roadmap that reflects the hopes of the people, the vision of our leadership, and the shared responsibility of all stakeholders,” VP Jallow said.
He noted that the recent enhancement of civil service remuneration by up to 130 percent reflects Government’s dedication to improving welfare, boosting morale, and enhancing productivity in the public sector.
VP Jallow urged Permanent Secretaries to align institutional priorities, strengthen collaboration, and work with renewed purpose to deliver on the national vision. “Together, we can transform vision into reality, responsibility into results, and aspirations into measurable achievements,” he said.
He stressed that sustainable development cannot be achieved by Government alone. “It requires the collective effort and synergy of all stakeholders — public and private sectors, civil society, academia, and citizens alike. Each has a critical role in advancing our national development agenda.”
The Vice President assured that Government would continue to provide clear policy direction, sound governance frameworks, and accountable leadership.
“When our efforts are aligned, our impact is amplified. When we act in unity, we accelerate transformation. Our task is to ensure that every policy, programme, and reform under the National Development Plan contributes meaningfully to sustainable development,” he posited.
This, he said, requires prioritising economic resilience, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. “We must measure success not only through outputs, but through tangible improvements in the quality of life of our citizens.”
VP Jallow also urged prudence amid global uncertainty. “As we gather to discuss how to serve our citizens better, let us not lose sight of the current global geo-political situation, affected by events in the Middle East. The impact has already started affecting every country and economy, and will continue to do so. As a country, we must brace ourselves by being mindful of how we spend our meagre resources,” he told the PSs.
“In unity of purpose, we will deliver. In collective responsibility, we will sustain. And through shared determination, we will build a future worthy of the hopes and expectations of our people,” VP Jallow concluded.
