Presenting the items, Alex Alasan Gomez, head of Marketing and Business Development Unit at Trust Bank Gambia, on behalf of the managing director of the bank, expressed delight and proud to continue this partnership with the hospital; a partnership that has spanned for years and touched the lives of many people.
He expressed heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Babucarr Ceesay and dedicated team at the hospital, saying their commitment to providing care, comfort and dignity to those suffering from mental health illnesses is truly commendable.
“The work you do is both wonderful and challenging and it does not go unnoticed. You have been a beacon of hope for so many, offering compassion and understanding in a field where stigma and misunderstanding still exists. As you know, and we all know, mental health is a critical and often overlooked aspect of health care. But the importance of mental health well-being cannot be overstated.”
The Trust Bank official acknowledged that mental health illnesses can affect anyone, regardless of age, background or circumstances, noting that whether it is depression, anxiety or other mental health disorders, these conditions often push individuals into their darkest moments where they feel isolated, hopeless and vulnerable.
“That is where you, the incredible staff of Tanka Tanka and our collaboration comes into play by providing the necessary care, treatment and resources. You have ensured that these individuals have the chance to regain their dignity and rebuild their lives. Through this partnership, we hope to continue making a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it the most. This year, we are pleased to contribute a total of D250,000 to support the vital work we've done here.”
To this end, he spoke highly of their collaborative work in the past and that their close work the team at the hospital has helped to identify the most pressing needs, ensuring that this donation is meaningful and impactful.
Also speaking, Tombong Konjira, clinical supervisor at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, recalled that the partnership between the hospital and the bank, which has spanned for years, has been very consistent.
“And it is not only limited to Tanka Tanka. There are other areas for support, like EFSTH Sanatorium in Banjul and the Dialysis unit. Trust Bank is always supporting us and I remember also during the time of COVID, the support that the bank gave us, was very vital.”
To this end, he on behalf of the unit commended the bank for their foresight and laudable gesture presented to the hospital.
“We really appreciate this support you've given and we want to say thank you so much for this act of kindness.”
“And we promise the united agents will be put into good use. And I'm also calling on all agencies and institutions to emulate this kind gesture; for indeed, we are serving the most vulnerable group in society.”
Sulayman Jah, administrator at Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital, expressed appreciation over the gesture, promising to judiciously used the material for their intended purpose.
Elsewhere, the bank on the same day extended magnanimity to the Bundung Maternal and Child Hospital (BMCH) in Bundunka Kunda.
The items, which includes essential items such as detergents and other items worth D200,000 are being deemed the hospital’s most urgent priorities.
However, this symbolic gesture is the fourth-year in a row the bank is supporting this only maternal and child hospital in the country amid its growing catchment areas.
Presenting the items, Amie Colleh-Secka, head of Sales at Trust Bank PLC on behalf of her managing director, acknowledged that as they continue their long-standing commitment to supporting the healthcare sector, she was also delighted to once again contribute to the important work of the hospital in improving the health and well-being of women and children in the country.
“First and foremost, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Mamadi Cham and his dedicated team of healthcare professionals for their tireless efforts in advancing women's health. Your commitment to ensuring the health of mothers and children is truly inspiring. The vital work you do every day is not only changing lives but saving them, and we at Trust Bank are proud to stand beside you as you continue to make a significant impact.”
She reminded that the issue of maternal mortality remains a critical challenge globally, and that in the Gambia, access to quality maternal healthcare is paramount.
“Every year, thousands of women and new-borns suffer loss of their lives due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth. However, with institutions like BMCH and your unwavering dedication to providing comprehensive maternal care, we are making strides towards reducing maternal mortality and improving outcome for women in our society.”
Trust Bank, she added, is fully aware of the challenges that healthcare facilities, particularly maternal hospitals face when it comes to resources, noting that that was the reasons over the past few years, they’ve have worked closely with the hospital management to understand their specific needs. ‘We believe that giving should not just be a gesture but a meaningful contribution to the hospital's most urgent priorities. For this reason, we are pleased to announce that the donation for this year amounts to 200,000. This donation went towards the purchase of the items that the hospital specifically requested to enhance the care provided to women during their most critical moments.’
Returning gesture, Dr. Mamady Cham, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BMCH, gives brief historical insight about his relationship with the bank and what the bank has done in the past.
CEO Cham recalled that this end of year generosity has now become an annual affair, further expressing appreciation over the gesture.
CEO Cham spoke about the hospital track records when it comes to quality services and that there's no magic formula to their services.
“Women want outcome. And if you want to know a facility, hospital or health centre that is performing, just ask the women.”
