"When I was Minister of Higher Education, my vehicle broke down in the middle of the road on my way to a Senegal match. It was two days before the cabinet reshuffle. All the cars were rickety," Abdourahmane Diouf told Solo Media.
He claims that at the time, it was Ousmane Sonko, then Prime Minister, who gave instructions that no vehicles should be purchased. What seems to surprise Mr. Diouf is that "in the same year, (Ousmane Sonko) says he took more than 900 million [CFA francs] to buy cars." “And these aren’t just any cars, they’re Maybachs, luxury cars, purchased with political funds,” Mr. Diouf stated.
According to him, Ousmane Sonko was also aware that government regulations prohibit the purchase of used goods by the state. “Furthermore, these are vehicles considered criminal assets and were seized by the state,” the minister declared indignantly on the Solo Media program.
