He made this remark during an interview with The Point ahead of the 38th annually Gamo of Salikene. He said that the topic is crucial for a stable and prosperous country and the world at large considering the current trend of the world with reference to the situation in The Gambia and in the Muslim Ummah. He said that he would task scholars during the Gamo to preach the virtues of unity and peaceful co-existence among people of all creeds in today’s world.
He enjoined Muslims and Christians in The Gambia to continue working together harmoniously to address global challenges while locally creating a foundation that will enable everyone to thrive regardless of religion.
The Mauritania–Saudi trained scholar pointed out that for peace to continue to prevail, people, whether Muslims or Christians must be tolerant of one another’s belief. He said through tolerance and respect, everyone will feel valued as that is key in building a peaceful society.
This year’s Gamo is slated for Saturday February 8 and is expected to be graced by thousands of worshippers from The Gambia, Senegal, Guinea Bissau and beyond.
