This visit aims to boost cooperation between the two institutions, focusing on improving electricity and water services.
During a press conference on Saturday, Mr. Gallo Saidy, the managing director of NAWEC said the Gambia's national utility has been expanding its services, with projects like the OMVG substation aiming to supply electricity to 298 rural communities.
He added that this collaboration could enhance regional energy security and cooperation.
Mr. Saidy explained that the visit focused on fostering long-term collaboration in the areas of electricity and water service delivery.
He noted that both institutions are already linked through regional initiatives such as the Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du fleuve Gambie (OMVG) and the West African Power Pool (WAPP), which promote energy interconnection and cross-border electricity trade.
During the engagement, Irenev Da Silva, director general of Water and Electricity Company of Guinea -Bissau (WECGB), expressed appreciation for NAWEC’s warm hospitality and commended the institution’s service delivery, particularly its prepaid metering system and governance framework.
He said the knowledge gained during their visit will be fully implemented as Guinea-Bissau's national utility has been working to address its energy challenges, including low electrification rates, currently at 29%.
Mr. Da Silva further reaffirmed their commitment to building a sustainable bilateral partnership that will enhance information sharing and facilitate staff exchange between the two West African utilities.
Further, both parties underscored the critical role of water and electricity as essential pillars for human survival and socio-economic development.
