Young Gambian accounting professional Modou L. Camara has been selected onto IFAC’s Young Leaders Collective or 1st Cohort, after being recognised as a sterling leader in the worldwide accounting profession.

IFAC - International Federation of Accountants - is a global organisation that represents the accounting profession, and its message and congratulatory letter to Mr Camara, who serves as Head of the Technical Department of Gambia’s Financial Reporting Oversight Board (FROB), reads:

“We are excited to inform you that after an extremely competitive selection process, you have been selected to join IFAC’s Young Leaders Collective through December 2025, with the possibility of an extension. Congratulations!”

According to IFAC, they had an overwhelming response from young professionals and students around the world for selection, but Camara’s “qualifications, experience, and enthusiasm for IFAC’s mission stood out”. “We are confident that your contributions will greatly benefit our organisation,” the confirmation message states.

Camara has been honoured to be one of the Young Leaders from 23 different jurisdictions around the world, all with a passion for accounting and serving the public interest.

IFAC has over 180 member organizations in more than 135 jurisdictions collectively representing millions of professional accountants worldwide. These member organisations and associates play a crucial role in shaping IFAC’s strategic direction and global priorities.

IFAC supports four independent standard-setting boards, each responsible for establishing international standards in specific areas. These are International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB), the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA), the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB), and the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB).

Mr Camara, the Head of FROB’s Technical Department, has been roundly congratulated by FROB.

“On behalf of the Board and Management of the Financial Reporting Oversight Board (FROB), I would like to extend our warmest congratulations on your recent selection as a founding member of the IFAC Young Leaders Collective,” FROB stated.  “This prestigious appointment is a testament to your dedication, expertise, and commitment to advancing the accounting profession. Your inclusion in the IFAC Young Leaders Collective not only highlights your outstanding contributions but also positions you as a vital representative of our profession, both nationally and internationally.

“We are confident that your engagement with the IFAC Collective will significantly contribute to the promotion of our profession and the amplification of our voices on critical issues, including sustainability, combating corruption, the integration of artificial intelligence, and talent development & retention.”

FROB is out to foster trust and promote public confidence in the accounting profession, and increase the credibility of financial reports, improve governance standards, and oversee the quality of audit and assurance engagements in The Gambia.

Mr Camara’s service focus will intensely concentrate on key topical issues as Sustainability, Public Finance Management, Combating Corruption, Artificial Intelligence, and Talent Development & Retention.

Henceforth, the voices of Mr Camara and his cohorts will be heard at the global stage where current and emerging issues facing the accounting profession are discussed.
