The Lower West Coast Special Joint Security Operation, comprising personnel of The Gambia Police Force, including General Duty and the Police Intervention Unit, alongside The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), has intensified coordinated operations across Kombo South as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal sand mining and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.

As part of the Special Joint Security Operation, teams conducted night patrols and established Vehicle Checkpoints (VCPs) at strategic locations, including Gunjur, Sambuya, Jambanjelly and the Farato–Jambur areas. Mobile patrols also monitored feeder roads, secondary routes and access points leading to quarry sites.

During the operations, most trucks observed remained parked, while monitored routes leading to quarry sites showed no signs of recent truck movements. No incidents were recorded during the patrols.

Given the continuing public concern surrounding illegal sand mining, the Special Joint Security Operation will sustain enhanced monitoring and coordinated patrols across affected areas to deter violations and ensure compliance with the law.

The public is warned to desist from all forms of illegal sand mining and encouraged to cooperate with security personnel by reporting suspected violations to the relevant authorities.
