Yuba Jawara, the vice chairman at Basse Area Council, has tendered his resignation from the United Democratic Party (UDP).

A letter signed by Mr Jawara and dated 8 March 2023, reads: “I am hereby writing this letter with deep sense of sorrow to announce that I Yuba Jawara has resigned from the United Democratic Party (UDP) as member of the party with immediate effect.”

The letter addressed to the Office of the Regional Secretariat of the United Democracy Party in Upper River Region, states: “This resignation came as a result of my leaving politics as a partisan politician and to take a new dimension as a non partisan, whereas my ideological beliefs and perspectives can be attained without causing any destruction to my career as a politician.”

Mr Jawara thanked the UDP for granting him a rare opportunity or privilege to serve as the flag-bearer for his ward in the 2018 Local Government Elections and came out victorious.

He said that through his election he was able to serve his people and brought so many developments to the community, as well as improved the lives and livelihoods of people in his ward and beyond.

He stated that he has no grudge against the party or anyone; rather his decision was taken out of his own will to transform his political career into a new approach.

“I am sure that this decision will be understood by party executives and the general members,” he added.

He also thanked the party for their relentless efforts and support throughout his tenure and did pray that the party achieve its objectives and goals in transforming The Gambia into a better place for its people.
