Bilbao
FC are set to clash with Ajax FC in the 2016 late Modou Janneh Memorial
intermediate league final slated for today, Friday 16 September 2016, at the
Gunjur Nyamina Football Field at 4.30 pm.
Today’s
final will be the debut appearance for Bilbao and Ajax in the late Modou Janneh
Memorial Intermediate league final since its inception in 2013, by Gunjur
Sports Committee to groom, nurture, and develop young talents in the village.
The
tournament is meant to prevent young players from playing senior nawettan in
their tender age, which really destroyed the career of several young players in
Gunjur in the previous year.
Bilbao
FC beat the reigning league champions Buckingham FC on penalties, after the
regulation time failed to produce a winner in their rescheduled semifinal game
on Tuesday, to sail to the final.
The
Athletics boys will be fighting to beat Ajax FC in the final to clinch their
first-ever intermediate league title.
Ajax,
on the other hand, booked their ticket to the final following their 1-0 win
over Misira United in the semifinal on Sunday.
The
Amsterdam boys will be striving to defeat Bilbao in the final to claim their
first-ever intermediate league title since lifting the knockout title in 2014.
The
2016 late Modou Janneh Memorial Intermediate league is bankrolled by Isatou
Cham Manjang, a native of Gunjur residing in the United Kingdom.
