Gunjur Knockout semis set for weekend

The 2016 Gunjur Knockout semifinal matches are set for this weekend at the Gunjur Nyamina Football Field after the completion of the quarterfinal matches recently.

As part of the semifinal matches, on Saturday 17 September 2016, FC Bax will rub shoulders with Red Star

FC Bax defeated Kundembo on penalties, after the regular time failed to produce a winner in the quarterfinal.

They will be targeting to smash Red Star Family FC in the semifinal to progress to the final as well as keeping their hopes of lifting the knockout trophy following their exit from the league in the group stage and also ended their recent trophy drought.

Red Star Family FC sailed to the semifinal after thrashing Mighty Ajax FC 3-0 in the quarterfinal with goals from right-back Sulayman Darboe alias Fasulay, midfielder Mbemba Fatty aka Andrea Iniesta and centre-back Ebrima Jatta alias Mario.

Red Star Family will be hunting for revenge against FC Bax to advance to the final after losing to the latter 4-0 few years ago in Gunjur nawettan.

Elsewhere, on Sunday 18 September 2016, Reliance Financial Services FC will take on surprise package of the nawettan Gam Rock FC in the second semifinal.

Reliance beat Berending-based outfit Black Star FC on penalties, after their goalless draw in regulation time in the quarterfinal to navigate to the semifinal.

The Gunjur Sanchaba-based outfit will be shining to humiliate Gam Rock in the semifinal to progress to the final as well as to fancy their chances of ending their recent trophy drought.

Gam Rock, who were tipped by many football admirers in Gunjur to carry the day, shocked Solid Properties FC on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the regulation time in the quarterfinal, to sail to the semifinal.

And they will be preparing to beat Reliance Financial Services FC in the semifinal to reach the final for the first time in their history.
