The
2016 Gunjur Knockout semifinal matches are set for this weekend at the Gunjur
Nyamina Football Field after the completion of the quarterfinal matches
recently.
As
part of the semifinal matches, on Saturday 17 September 2016, FC Bax will rub
shoulders with Red Star
FC
Bax defeated Kundembo on penalties, after the regular time failed to produce a
winner in the quarterfinal.
They
will be targeting to smash Red Star Family FC in the semifinal to progress to
the final as well as keeping their hopes of lifting the knockout trophy
following their exit from the league in the group stage and also ended their
recent trophy drought.
Red
Star Family FC sailed to the semifinal after thrashing Mighty Ajax FC 3-0 in
the quarterfinal with goals from right-back Sulayman Darboe alias Fasulay,
midfielder Mbemba Fatty aka Andrea Iniesta and centre-back Ebrima Jatta alias
Mario.
Red
Star Family will be hunting for revenge against FC Bax to advance to the final
after losing to the latter 4-0 few years ago in Gunjur nawettan.
Elsewhere,
on Sunday 18 September 2016, Reliance Financial Services FC will take on
surprise package of the nawettan Gam Rock FC in the second semifinal.
Reliance
beat Berending-based outfit Black Star FC on penalties, after their goalless
draw in regulation time in the quarterfinal to navigate to the semifinal.
The
Gunjur Sanchaba-based outfit will be shining to humiliate Gam Rock in the
semifinal to progress to the final as well as to fancy their chances of ending
their recent trophy drought.
Gam
Rock, who were tipped by many football admirers in Gunjur to carry the day,
shocked Solid Properties FC on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the regulation
time in the quarterfinal, to sail to the semifinal.
And
they will be preparing to beat Reliance Financial Services FC in the semifinal
to reach the final for the first time in their history.
