After months of intense scrutiny pertaining to the forthcoming sports journalists award by the award committee, headed by Dodou Bojang, the sports journalists association of The Gambia under the stewardship of Namory Trawally will vote to determine the final winners of the 2009 award, scheduled for Saturday 10th April, at the Friendship Hostel Garden in Bakau.

Members of the association will this Wednesday come forward to vote for their most outstanding sports men and women in a form of secret voting at the Point Newspaper’s office, along Garba Jahumpa in Bakau.

However, according to the Secretary-General of the association, Sainabou Kujabi, candidates are expected to be voted for by the members of the sports journalists association.

They include the most outstanding Gambian foreign-based player for 2009, the most outstanding home-based player in both male and female categories, most outstanding local coach, most outstanding football referee male and female, most outstanding athlete male and female, as well as the most outstanding tennis player, ranging from both male and female categories, respectively.

Kujabi, who works with the Point Newspaper as the sports editor went further to add that the journalists award which will be based on the grading of individual award and the quality of the report presented by the candidate would not be voted for by the members of the association.

Kujabi, however, noted that the news items had been handed to veteran journalists, who will then choose the best journalists award, based on the report being presented.

An estimated number of 250 people are expected to attend the award ceremony which is just four days away.
