33 Amateur golfers yesterday competed in the Monthly Blue Riband event, played at the Fajara Golf Course.
The "Monthly Mug" is a medal event using the scoring method employed by the professionals. One bad hole can ruin your score, so the winner earns his or her trophy. The ladies played for "The Spoon" and Sharon Mears won it by one stroke from Lynne Tomlinson with a score of 71 which is 2 over par.
The men Mug was won by Vimal Shah with a 4 under par 65 with Peter Millar coming out second on 67 and Michel Koster in third.

Meanwhile, next week the J.P. Chenet Competition will be played at the Fajara Golf Course. "Guests with handicaps" are welcome, to the Fajara Club before Friday to sign up as the course is said to be in its finest fettle at the moment.

Pa Famara J.J. Jatta widely known as J.J. Jatta, a professional golfer of the Gambia Golf Association (GGA) and member of the Fajara Golf Club is calling on the public to come on board and play golf to improve the game in the country.

According to J.J. Jatta, his aim is to build a golf academy in the country, and as a result he is calling on stakeholders: the Youths, Ministers and Permanent Secretaries to come and support golf.
