The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) on Sunday presented a giant trophy and a cash prize of D100,000 to the 2012-2013 Gamtel-Gamcel-sponsored GFF division one league champions Steve Biko at a colourful ceremony held at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Steve Biko clinched their first-ever GFF division one league title in a grand style after their slender 1-0 win over Banjul outfit Hawks in the final game of the season courtesy of Assan Jatta’s goal in the 69th minute of the game, which eventually earned the Bakau giant killers the country’s premier league title.
Abdoulie Bojang, head coach of Steve Biko, expressed gratitude for lifting the GFF division one league title for the first time in the history of the club, adding that they have been hunting the league title for many years and have now realised their aspiration.
Bojang stated that Steve Biko really deserved to seal the league title because they were absolutely astonishing and well-composed throughout the season winning their games, adding that though the league was very competitive and tough they managed to claim the title.
Bojang further says they are determined to participate successfully in the CAF Champions league next year if they get the financial backup, as participating in the Champions league involves huge amount of money.
They will however try their utmost best to secure the required funds to participate in the CAF Champions league next year, he said.
