The labour-saving device was donated through the Kombo North Lady Councillor, Madam Kumba Barry.
The presentation of the milling machine was graced by several local dignitaries and a cross-section of the community accompanied by drumming and dancing by the women.
In his welcoming remarks, the Alkalo of Mandinary, Fah Ceesay, described the event as very significant in the history of his village, saying it was the first of its kind for his village to receive “such a wonderful assistance”.
He commended the donors through Madam Kumba Barry for the donation, urging her to keep facilitating the support of such projects for the community.
For his part, the Paramount Chief of The Gambia, Alhagie Demba Sanyang, applauded Councillor Kumba Barry for securing the milling machine for the community of Mandinary.
The Paramount Chief then challenged the community to utilize the machine as it will help them in a big way in processing their products.
He also used the occasion to commend the Gambian leader for creating an environment conducive for all to do their businesses safely and successfully.
For her part, Binta Kanyi, Women Mobiliser of Kombo North, described Kumba Barry as ‘a very hardworking and committed women leader”.
She noted that Kumba Barry’s mission is in line with President Jammeh’s in empowering
Sinchu Alhagie Alkalo Salifu Ceesay expressed joy and appreciation at the effort of Kumba Barry in providing the milling machine for the Mandinary community.
Lady Councillor Kumba Barry, the lady behind the donation, thanked the people of Kombo North through the Paramount Chief of The Gambia for giving her the courage to help them.
She further thanked the Government of The Gambia under the dynamic leadership of President Yahya Jammeh for empowering the Gambian women in their development aspiration as well as the vice president for supporting women of the country.
It was very necessary as a lady councillor to contribute her quota towards national development, she also says, while thanking ActionAid The Gambia for helping her to secure the three milling machines and two rice threshers for the communities of Sukuta, Brufut and others.
