In-form Jiffarong FC of Kiang West in the Lower River Region have qualified to the last four of the ongoing GFA organised district football tournament.
The rejuvenated Jiffarong FC under the guidance of coach Jerreh Kinteh assisted by ever hardworking Sanjally Sanyang did more than enough to keep a clean sheet as they salvage their place in the championship amid fantastic fanfare among the noisy travelling fans.
The team, widely regarded as one of the competition’s favourites, celebrated a famous 2-nil victory at the expense of Sandeng, whose effort was not good enough to earn them a happy evening or moment.
Two brilliant goals from striking duo Pa Modou Barrow and impressive Yusupha Njie were all but enough to confirm a qualification place for Jiffarong.
That victory has propelled them to the semifinal to set up a meeting with neighbours and one-time bitter foes Dumbuto, who are also blessed with some great talents.
Jiffarong got off to a bright start to the campaign with a bitterly fought 1-nil victory over Niorro Jatta few weeks ago, which was followed by a disappointing 2-1 loss to Batelin in which the team’s officials blamed the central referee for their shocking defeat.
Despite their defeat to Batelin, which also confirmed their only setback in the entire competition, Jiffarong made a sensational recovery in their quarterfinal clash to prevail 1-nil winners at the expense of Wudeba to go through to the semis.
If their recent magnificent performance in this year’s district tournament is anything to go by, Jiffarong, filled with some promising prospects and great potentials, could possibly lay their hands on their first trophy at the competitive level.
But whether the team is capable of breaking a record in such a major competition against such huge opponents remains to be seen.
