The Gambia Standard Bureau, in collaboration with various stakeholders in the country, will join the world to observe World Metrology Day today, Wednesday.
World Metrology Day is celebrated annually on 20 May, worldwide, to recognise the signing of the Metre Convention in France, 20 May 1875.

The convention sets the framework for global collaboration in the science of measurement and in its industrial, commercial and societal applications.Officials said the original aim of the convention – the global uniformity of measurement – remains as important today as it was in 1875.

This year’s theme is ‘Measurements and light’.The theme is said to be chosen to align with the UNESCO International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015.

In The Gambia, the commemoration of the convention will be in the form of information sharing forum among various stakeholders at Khamsy Technology Centre in Bijilo.

During the forum, the Gambia Standard Bureau in collaboration with the Weight and Measures Bureau are expected to lead the discussion on metrology development in The Gambia.
