Ex-Minister Mambury Njie appears at High Court

Former Finance and Foreign Affairs Minister, Mambury Njie, who was charged with economic crime, yesterday appeared before the vacation judge, Justice Abdoullah Mikailu, at the high court in Banjul for a bail application.

When the case was called, the Director of Public Prosecutions, S.H. Bakun, announced his representation for the state, while defence counsel Lamin Camara, announced his representation for the applicant.

Justice Abdoullah Mikailu, after hearing from both sides, adjourned the case till 31 December 2012, for ruling on the bail application.

It would be recalled that Mambury Njie was arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court, and charged with economic crime.

However, he was remanded at the state central prison at Mile II and the case was transferred to the high court, which has jurisdiction to hear the matter.

The particulars of offence read at the lower court stated that Mamburry Njie, between 2006 and 2010 in Banjul and diverse places in The Gambia, intentionally and recklessly did an act which was detrimental to the economy of The Gambia.
