Bombada, roots win in triangular qualifiers

Bombada and Roots on Monday 11th February 2012 snatched their first victory in the 2012-2013 Gambia Football Association, GFA’s third division triangular qualifiers, after defeating opponents in the opening games, played at the Brikama and Banjul KG5 Mini-Stadium, respectively.

Bombada beat Gunjur United 1-0 in the all West Coast Region derby game. Gunjur United, who were relegated to the third tier came into the game with hopes of bagging the maximum points in order to keep their hopes of returning to the second tier. Bombada were unbeaten during the West Coast third division qualifiers and dominated the ball possession, thus creating numerous goal scoring opportunities.

Bombada opened the score through striker Omar Bangura in the 44th minute of the game from penalty spot after Gunjur United central defender; Yusupha Manka handled the ball inside the eighteen yard box to give his side the lead.

Elsewhere, Roots defeated Starlight on the same score line in all Banjul derby game, played at the Banjul KG5 Mini-Stadium on the same day.
