A Three Horse Race In GFA First Division League

Jul 2, 2008, 6:13 AM | Article By: By Ebou Manneh

The 2007/08 GFA first division league season has become a three horse race, with Wallidan, Samger and Hawks FC vying for the title with only two games to go.

Wallidan's hope of extending their lead in the league was dashed after their shock defeat at the hands of Bakau United. They were beaten by 1-0 in a game played at the Sere kunda East Mini Stadium. Bakau giant's win will lift their team sprit and hopes of avoiding relegation in the domestic league.

The Academy Boys of Samger registered a very important win against the 2007 GFA league champions Real de Banjul by beating them 2-1 at the  Independence Stadium in Bakau on Monday. Samger's win saw them occupying the second spot ahead of Wallidan on goal difference.

The Red Devil of Hawks are third with 33 points, 2points behind Wallidan and Samger. They failed to beat Armed forces in a very important game but rather went in for a one all draw.

Earlier on Sunday, Interior lost to Gamtel 1-0 making their exit from the premier league very likely.
