The world is full of what would weary us - the spate of wanton killings, pollution, heightened racism, violence, rocketing commodity prices, inflation, to name a few.
But these things should not come as a surprise to believers. Jesus warned that nations would rise against nations. "You will hear of wars and rumours of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen but the end is still to come." (Matt. 24:6)
These are mere signposts of things to come. They constitute the prelude to our frustrations, our sleepless nights and unending self-inflicted worries - except if we are familiar with scripture.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus. Those who hope in the Lord -- will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isa. 40:31)
If we continue to listen to the kind of news the world media is peddling, we are bound to fret and worry.
Jesus invites each of us to "Come to me, all you who are weary and are burdened and I will give you rest." (Matt. 11:28)
Apostle Peter admonishes: "Cast all your anxieties (cares) on Jesus because He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)
Our shoulders are not broad enough to carry them. Needless to worry. Take them to the Way Maker, the Miracle Worker and the Game Changer and He will give you rest. Amen!
