Real de Banjul revive lead in 1st Division

Real de Banjul have renewed their lead in the 2023-2024 Baluwo sponsored Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Division One League campaign.

The city boys defeated Greater Tomorrow Football Academy 1-0 in their crunch week-two fixture played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium on Sunday.

Real de Banjul and Greater Tomorrow Football Academy both won their opening league matches prior to their deceive match.

Greater Tomorrow Football Academy made a promising start to the match and dominated the match, creating goal scoring opportunities but failed to capitalise on them.

Real de Banjul, who were unable to contain Greater Tomorrow Football Academy in the midfield, also created a few goal scoring opportunities but failed to score thus the first half ended goalless.

Upon resumption of the match, Real de Banjul injected in several fresh legs and dominated Greater Tomorrow Football Academy in the midfield, crafting numerous goal scoring chances.

Substitute Muhammed Suso opened the scores for Real de Banjul in the 85th minute of the match, which eventually proved to be the winner for the city boys.

Greater Tomorrow Football Academy responded back for an equaliser but were unable to penetrate Real de Banjul’s formidable defence line thus the match ended 1-0 in favour of Real de Banjul.

The win earns Real de Banjul top-spot on the country’s Elite League table 6 points in two league matches.

The defeat earns Greater Tomorrow Football Academy 5th place on the First Division League table with 3 points after two league outings.

Meanwhile, Marimoo Parkfood beat Wallidan 1-0 at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium to bounce back in the country’s Premier League after slipping to TMT FC 2-1in their opening league match. 

Brikama United defeated Samger 2-1 at the Late Ousman Saho Football Field in Old Yundum to secure their first win in the country’s Elite League.

Sainey Bojang and Dominic Correa were on the score sheet for Brikama United in the 20th and 35th minute of the match respectively.

Modou Lamin Jammeh’s 65th minute strike only proved to be a consolation goal for Samger.
