The Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games will be bold, original and unique.
It will offer an Opening Ceremony that is certain to join the most memorable moments in Olympic history.
A ceremony outside a stadium
For the first time in the history of the Olympic Summer Games, the Opening Ceremony will not take place in a stadium.
Paris 2024 is breaking new ground by bringing sports into the city and the same will be true of the Opening Ceremony, set to be held in the heart of the city along its main artery: the Seine.
A ceremony on the river
Taking on a new guise, the parade of athletes will be held on the Seine with boats for each national delegation.
These boats will be equipped with cameras to allow television and online viewers to see the athletes up close.
Winding their way from east to west, the 10,500 athletes will cross through the centre of Paris, the overall playing field for the Games on which these competitors will display their sporting prowess over the next 16 days.
The parade will come to the end of its 6-kilometre route in front of the Trocadéro, where the remaining elements of Olympic protocol and final shows will take place.
A ceremony with admission for many spectators
A ceremony open to as many people as possible is a first.
Eighty giant screens and strategically placed speakers will allow everyone to enjoy the magical atmosphere of this show reverberating throughout the French capital.
The Opening Ceremony for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be the largest in Games history.
It will be open to all: residents from Paris and its region, as well as visitors from all over France and around the world.
A ceremony designed for and by athletes
Athletes will be the heart and soul of the ceremony.
By opening with the parade of athletes, Paris 2024 is breaking with tradition. Athletes will be featured on stage during the introduction to and throughout the ceremony as part of Paris 2024’s constant aim to hold Games created for and by athletes.
Meanwhile, The Gambia is being represented by it's largest contingent ever to an Olympic Games as per IOC qualification standards.
The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) announced that Gambia will join 206 National Olympic Committees worldwide in participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled to take place from July 26th to August 11th, 2024.
There are high hopes and confidence that the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be a symbol of peace and unity during these trying times for the world. The Games will unite billions of people around the globe with a shared vision of peaceful competition.
The Games will mark the beginning of a
new era, featuring full gender parity and complete alignment with Olympic Agenda 2020. The Games will also be more sustainable, aiming to cut carbon emissions by half compared to the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games. This ambitious goal aligns with the Paris Climate Agreement's objectives for 2030, achieving these targets six years ahead of schedule.
The Olympic Games will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy, with 95 percent of the venues being pre-existing or temporary facilities.
The Gambia’s journey to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games began four years ago when the GNOC secured Olympic scholarships for seven athletes to train in high-performance training centers.
These scholarships were aimed at helping athletes attain qualification standards for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In addition to the scholarships, the GNOC has been closely working with the National Sports Council, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the respective National Sports Associations to support athletes' participation in Olympic qualification and other important competitions globally.
The qualification window for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games closed on June 30, 2024.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC), in collaboration with the respective International Federations (IFs), confirmed the list of athletes who qualified through standard qualification or
Universality places based on the requirements set for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In comparison to Gambia's past Olympic appearances, the country is being represented by its largest contingent ever, with seven athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, following the IOC's establishment of qualification requirements.
