The donated items include Football jerseys, track suits and volleyballs.
The donation was meant to support and motivate both Marina middle and school students in sports.
Speaking at a presentation ceremony held at the Marana International School in Bakau New Town, Ambassador Tijan Jaiteh stated that the gesture was part of his mandate as Goodwill Sports Ambassador of The Gambia to motivate and encourage youth in sports.
“My aims and objectives are to motivate and encourage the youths in sports. This donation is meant for both the middle and high school,” Jaiteh said, adding that it would serve as a tool to encourage and motivate youth in sports.
According to him, the importance of sports cannot be overemphasised, adding that it would help students in their physical fitness, reduces mental health, eliminates stress and maintain good health.
Receiving the donated items on behalf of the school, Emmanuel Ng’eno, Deputy Head of Schools at Marina International High School, expressed delight for receiving the donated materials.
He noted that the donated materials would play a vital role in enhancing their physical education programmes and also promote a spirit of sportsmanship among students.
Emanuel stated that the gesture would help inspire young learners to engage in physical activities, develop team work, skills and cultivate a healthy lifestyle.
‘‘Marina International School believes that physical fitness is crucial for the holistic development of their students and the donation items would not only support sports programmes but would also encourage students to participate in various athletic activities,’’ Emmanuel said.
