Under the leadership of Professor A. Jeff-Agboola, President and Founder of VOWDA, the event grouped high-level participants from across the African continent to deliberate on the critical role of women in transforming food and nutrition security in Africa.
Eminent academics, scholars, and agricultural experts presented papers and participated in panel discussions. Among the distinguished speakers was Dr Ernest Aubee, an agricultural expert from The Gambia, who served as a panelist and delivered a presentation titled “Smart Agriculture, Smart Women: Driving Innovation and Agribusiness Transformation in a Digital Era.”
Dr Aubee emphasised the pivotal role women play in Africa’s food systems, noting that they are often excluded from access to modern agricultural technologies. He called on governments across the continent to allocate more resources to support women’s agricultural activities, with a particular focus on technology and innovation, capacity development, access to credit, and value addition.
The conference concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at enhancing women’s participation in agriculture, which will be disseminated to stakeholders across Africa for implementation.
