The Republic of Türkiye has reaffirmed its growing partnership and solidarity with African nations as the continent commemorates Africa Day 2026, marking another milestone in diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations between Türkiye and African countries.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye congratulated African nations and peoples on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU).

The Turkish government described Africa Day as an important occasion symbolising the unity, resilience, and aspirations of African countries in their pursuit of peace, development, and prosperity.

Türkiye noted that its relations with Africa have expanded significantly over the years through mutual cooperation, respect, and shared interests. The statement highlighted Ankara’s commitment to strengthening partnerships in areas such as trade, investment, education, health, infrastructure, agriculture, and humanitarian assistance.

The Ministry further emphasised that Türkiye attaches great importance to its cooperation with African institutions, particularly the African Union, and reiterated its determination to continue contributing to peace, stability, and sustainable development across the continent.

According to the statement, Türkiye’s engagement with Africa has deepened through high‑level diplomatic exchanges, development cooperation projects, and increasing people‑to‑people relations. The country now maintains a growing number of embassies across Africa, while African nations have also expanded their diplomatic presence in Ankara.

The Turkish government praised the dynamism and youthful population of the continent, describing Africa as a strategic partner with immense potential for global growth and transformation.

Observers note that Türkiye has steadily strengthened its influence and partnerships in Africa over the past two decades through economic cooperation, humanitarian support, and diplomatic engagement.

Africa Day is celebrated annually on 25 May to commemorate the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963. The day serves as a reminder of Africa’s struggle for liberation, unity, and socio‑economic advancement.

This year’s commemoration is being observed across the continent with renewed calls for stronger regional integration, peacebuilding, and inclusive development amid growing global challenges.
