The Point edifies Banjulinding School students on media tour

As part of their excursion to media houses, students of Banjulinding Upper and Senior Secondary School Press Club recently visited The Point newspaper Office at Westfield.

The  delegetions of over 30 students were led by their press teacher coordinator. They were receieved  by Cherno Omar Bobb, news editor and head of sports for The Point newspaper.

Pap Saine, co-publisher of The Point Newspaper welcomed the students and their teacher to The Point newspaper and commended them for their visit.

He explained the history of the paper to them, which according to him, was established on 16th December 1991 by himself, late Deyda Hydara and late Babucarr Gaye. He revealed that the paper used to published every Monday for the first two years and then later every Monday and Thursday.

He added that in 1995 the paper stated publishing three times a week and in 2001 it began publishing daily.

Momodou Jawo, a senior reporter with The Point Newspaper urged the students to take their education seriously. He described journalism as one of the most noble and important professions, noting that it can earn one respect.

Jawo advised the students to always verify the information they have before going to press. He said this is because once a false story is published it causes damage. He also advised the press club students to read extensively about various topics because journalism requires some knowledge about every aspect of society. 

Foday B. Manneh, press coordinator for Banjulinding Upper and Senior Secondary School said the press club members are students who desire to pursue journalism after completing senior secondary school and up to the university level.

He added that the aim of the students in future is to contribute to the development of society through journalism or any other institution they find themselves in.

Mr. Manneh said they chose The Point Newspaper as of one of the media outlets the country to visit because of its reliability was credibility.

Omar Sanyang, a student expressed excitement in visiting the newsroom and seeing how real journalism work is done as well as meeting great Gambian journalists.

Gibel Sowe, also a student said they learned a lot during the visit. He added that the visit would encourage them to work harder towards realising their dream as aspiring young journalists.
