The AGM was aimed at updating members on the activities and financial transaction of the VDC over the past five years, while also according members an opportunity to elect new members who would steer the affairs of the village in the coming years.
Welcoming the gathering, Paul Victor Mendy, chairperson of the VDC, commended members of the VDC for their dedication and commitment to the development of the village, acknowledging that over the past five years, the VDC has brought tremendous development to the communities in various areas.
“We have rehabilitated feeder roads, provided a borehole and built a website for the VDC. We have also made series of donations to both the Muslims and Christians cemeteries and disaster victims.”
The VDC, he added, has initiated several plans to bring more developments to the doorstep of residents in order to improve their livelihoods.
He also spoke about their plans to expand the village borehole project as well as provide streetlights for the community.
He therefore called for peace and unity in the community to ensure sustainable development.
Lamenting on some of the challenges affecting them, Mendy reminded that village in the past had encountered series of challenges that include: lack of a health facility, land for football fields, spaces for market and a meeting ground as well as poor physical planning of the community.
Ebrima Jawo, secretary general of the VDC, said the committee had spent five-hundred thousand dalasis (D500,000) on development projects in the past five years.
He then gave a breakdown of the projects and the amount of money spent on each project, saying those projects among others, are sponsored by the VDC.
Batch Sonko, a resident of the village, disclosed that they had previous committees, but that they’ve never had a committee that brought much development to the community like the current VDC.
Pa Malick Gaye, a Tawuto native currently based in Germany, acknowledged the unprecedented development spearheaded by the VDC.
Hussanatou Baldeh and Sulayman Drammeh, representing women and Brikama Area Council (BAC) respectively, commended members of the VDC for their efforts.
Meanwhile, the new members of the VDC are: Paul Victor Mendy, chair; Musa Suso, vice chair; Ebrima Jawo, secretary general and Muhammed Cham, treasurer.
