Authorities in the West Coast Region have renewed calls for stronger coordination, accountability and community engagement as the region’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) convened its quarterly meeting on Tuesday.

The convergence brought together government officials, security chiefs and representatives from non-governmental organisations to assess ongoing programmes and address key development and security concerns affecting the region.

The forum served as a platform for heads of departments and stakeholders to review progress made over the past three months, evaluate the performance of TAC operations and deliberate on emerging regional challenges ranging from service delivery gaps to irregular migration and infrastructure planning.

Governor Ousman Bojang underscored the importance of the quarterly meeting, describing it as a vital mechanism for tracking sectoral performance and strengthening service delivery. He emphasised that aligning institutional activities with local development priorities remains central to achieving good governance and tangible results for communities.

Deputy Governor Musa Amul Nyassi described the TAC as an accountability platform where departmental heads present activity reports, outline operational constraints and collectively explore practical solutions to accelerate regional development.

Security coordination featured prominently in the discussions. Immigration Commissioner Hammadi Jammeh highlighted the need for closer collaboration and timely information sharing among institutions, stressing that coordinated action is essential in addressing irregular migration and cross-border challenges.

Police Commissioner Foday S.K. Balajo echoed similar sentiments, calling for stronger reporting structures within the TAC framework to enhance security coordination and improve response mechanisms across the region.

In the area of planning and citizen engagement, Regional Physical Planning Officer Bakary Manneh proposed opening future TAC meetings to community participation. He argued that direct interaction between citizens and public officials would promote transparency and enable communities to provide first-hand feedback on their development priorities.

Alagie Jatta, Regional Community Development Officer and Secretary to the TAC, reaffirmed the committee’s pivotal role in fostering effective coordination among regional authorities. He noted that the structure enables the region to compile informed reports and recommendations for submission to the central government to support sound policy decisions.

Heads of departments who addressed the meeting observed that the quarterly sessions have helped bridge communication gaps between institutions, reinforced transparency and strengthened collective responsibility in service delivery at the grassroots level.

The Technical Advisory Committee operates under the mandate of the Local Government Act 2002, with responsibility for facilitating planning, coordination and sustainable development at the local level.
