The partnership will provide ten borehole machines for communities in the Council’s area, as well as fencing for two community centres and the Council’s staff quarters.

Kotu, The Gambia 30th October 2026: Wave Gambia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Janjanbureh Area Council to support community development projects that will improve access to water and strengthen community facilities in the Central River Region.

Under the partnership, Wave will fund the procurement of ten borehole machines with cylinders for communities within the Council’s area, along with fencing for two community centres and the Council’s staff quarters. The Council will lead implementation, including selecting the beneficiary communities and installing the equipment, and will report on progress over the coming year.

The MoU was signed on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, at Wave’s office in Kotu, in the presence of a delegation from Janjanbureh Area Council led by Chairman Sulayman Sawaneh.

“Access to water is essential, and well-maintained community facilities provide important spaces and services for the people who depend on them,” said Sainabou Sarr, General Manager of Wave Gambia. “For us, it is also important that our community engagement extends beyond the Greater Banjul Area. We want to build relationships with institutions across The Gambia, understand their priorities and explore how we can contribute in ways that are useful and meaningful.”

Sarr explained that while Wave’s focus is making everyday financial services simpler and more convenient, the company recognises that the needs of communities go beyond financial services, and that supporting practical initiatives is one way it can make a difference in people’s everyday lives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Sulayman Sawaneh thanked Wave for its support, describing the partnership as an honour. He noted that many boreholes in the area require attention, and that the new borehole machines will help improve access to water and the reliability of community water facilities. He also welcomed the improvements to the Council’s staff quarters and community centres.

“We appreciate Wave Gambia’s support in addressing the development needs of our communities. This partnership is important, particularly in improving water facilities and other essential infrastructure. We believe this collaboration will help us respond to the needs of our people and contribute to better living conditions across the Janjanbureh Area Council.”

“Signing an agreement is only the beginning,” Sarr added. “What matters most is how we work together to implement the initiative and deliver the intended benefits.”
