Natives and residents of Kartong village, together with families and friends within and outside The Gambia, have officially launched the Gambia Chapter of Sadaka Jariyaa Kafoo — a charitable association aimed at supporting the poor, vulnerable and underprivileged.
The launch, held in Kartong on Saturday, brought together members from across the country and the diaspora. The Kafoo, which seeks to provide economic, cultural, social and financial support to needy communities, also elected a new executive committee to steer its affairs.
The newly elected executive includes Bajamba Manneh as President, Fatou Manneh as Vice President, Jola Kebba as Secretary General, Momodou Lamin Sillah as Assistant Secretary, Mariama Bojang as Treasurer, Badou Camara as Public Relations Officer and Assistant Treasurer, Fatou Nafi Jammeh as Assistant PRO, Mariama Bojang as Youth President, and Ajading Jammeh as Chief Organiser.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Manneh expressed delight and appreciation to members for unanimously electing him to lead the association.
He described the task ahead as daunting but promised to deliver, saying the Kafoo is committed to collective advancement and community empowerment.
Mr. Manneh thanked Lamin Sillah for initiating the noble cause of bringing people together as one family to support each other.
According to him, Sadaka Jariyaa has a large membership across The Gambia, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Casamance, Europe and America.
“Sadaka Jariyaa International, operating both locally and internationally, has now officially launched a new chapter in The Gambia to effectively coordinate and implement our projects while maintaining strong ties with the communities we serve,” Manneh said.
He called on the government to support the association by providing land for an administrative office and project sites to enable implementation of major projects such as schools, hospitals, skills centres and other social amenities.
“All these planned projects are geared towards complementing government efforts in providing social and economic development. Government alone cannot do everything,” he noted.
For his part, Lamin Sillah congratulated members for coming together to contribute their quota to national development and poverty eradication at community level.
“We rise by lifting others,” Sillah emphasized.
Other speakers, including PRO Badou Camara and Sheikh Joh, Principal, echoed similar sentiments, urging government, philanthropists and individuals to support the worthy cause.
