The Pipeline Mosque Committee has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting healthcare in The Gambia, with a generous donation of 750 bedsheets to hospitals across the country. The donation, valued at GMD 618, 750.00, was presented to Kanifing General Hospital and other major health facilities.

Each bedsheet, costing 825 dalasis, forms part of the committee’s longstanding tradition of assisting hospitals with essential supplies. Kanifing General Hospital, one of the most densely populated health facilities in the country, has been a regular beneficiary of the committee’s charitable gestures.

In addition to the donation of bedsheets, the Pipeline Mosque Committee handed over a cheque of 50,000 dalasis to Kanifing General Hospital, earmarked for the improvement and upkeep of the hospital’s mortuary facilities

Hospital officials described the Pipeline Mosque Committee as one of their most consistent donors, noting that the annual support has become a vital contribution to patient care and comfort. The committee’s representatives emphasised that the initiative is rooted in their belief in community service and the importance of strengthening healthcare delivery nationwide.

The donation is expected to ease the burden on hospitals struggling with limited resources, while also reinforcing the committee’s reputation as a reliable partner in the health sector.

Speaking at the event, the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Basirou Drammeh, underscored the importance of the donation, describing the Pipeline Mosque Committee as a “household name” due to its consistent support. He noted that the committee has been donating items valued at over D500,000 annually to Kanifing General Hospital and other health facilities nationwide.

“The government cannot do it alone,” Drammeh said. “The country is not resource-oriented, so the support of philanthropists and donors is of paramount importance. Almost 60 percent of what we do here is free, unlike private hospitals which charge. That is why the Pipeline Mosque Committee’s intervention is so vital.”

He explained that the donation would allow hospitals to redirect funds that would otherwise have been spent on bedsheets towards purchasing foodstuffs, medicines, and other essentials. “In essence, what the committee is doing here is saving lives,” he added.

The committee also presented a cheque for D50,000 to support the hospital’s mortuary, with plans to upgrade it into a state-of-the-art facility. Drammeh emphasised that this gesture would ensure dignity for the deceased and comfort for bereaved families.

Alhagie Badou Faye, Vice President of the Pipeline Mosque Committee, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting healthcare, stressing that “a healthy nation can strive to achieve its development agenda.” He praised donor Ahmad Ghanim Diab, who has assured the committee that the support will continue for future generations. “Our contributions come from Muslims, and we are determined to expand this support to other hospitals across the country,” Faye said.

Raffiab Diab, CEO of Emporium, highlighted the importance of quality healthcare, noting that he was inspired to support through the Pipeline Mosque because of its dedication to community wellbeing.

Delivering a vote of thanks, Isatou Bah of the Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Centre hailed the donation as timely, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. “You are making patients very comfortable. This support comes at the right time, ensuring that our hospitals remain safe and welcoming places,” she said.

The Pipeline Mosque Committee’s annual tradition of giving continues to play a crucial role in strengthening healthcare delivery across The Gambia, bringing comfort to patients and easing the burden on overstretched hospitals.

Beneficiary hospitals included Kanifing General Hospital, Bansang, Farafenni, Bundung, Bwiam, EFSTH, Ndemban, among others.
