The unveiling took place on Wednesday during the matriculation ceremony for the inaugural intake of Master’s students marking a historic milestone for the institution.
Speaking at the event, Fatou A. Barry, Deputy Rector of the Civil Service University (formerly MDI), described the facility as “a necessary investment” made in collaboration with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), MDI’s long-standing academic partner.
“Bringing this programme home makes a significant difference in terms of cost and accessibility, allowing participants to remain in the country while enhancing their capacity,” she noted.
Mrs Barry praised the collective effort that brought the project to life, describing it as a “three-triangle collaboration” comprising the Director General’s approval, financial support from the Finance Department, and technical execution by the Procurement Unit.
“This project reflects not only a financial investment but also a long-term commitment to academic excellence and the sustainability of postgraduate programmes,” she added.
Dr Burama Jammeh, a member of the Governing Council of the Civil Service University/MDI, described the unveiling as a landmark in the transformation of public sector education in The Gambia. He highlighted the enduring partnership between GIMPA and CSU/MDI aimed at enhancing the capacity and performance of public service professionals.
“The classroom will not only serve as a space for intellectual exchange and learning, but also stand as a testament to what visionary collaboration can achieve,” he said.
Professor Samuel Kwaku Bonsu, Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), reflected on the long-standing plans between GIMPA and MDI (now CSU) to introduce the Master’s programme in Public Sector Management.
“We believed we had the strength, commitment, and vision to extend our partnerships across Africa,” he said. “I hope this building becomes a lasting symbol of effective collaboration between our two institutions and our nations.”
