Imam Ousman Jah, prominent Gambian scholar and imam at the Taqwa Mosque along Bertil Harding Highway recently launched three books at a ceremony held at Q-city in Bijilo.

The event was graced by Islamic clerics and scholars, academia, political and business leaders. Also in attendance were Imam Alhaji Cherno Alieu Mass Kah, Imam Ratib of The Gambia, Imam Omar Jah, renowned politician, Halifah Sallah, Muhammed Jah and Yankuba Darboe, commissioner general of The Gambia Revenue Authority, amongst others.

The first book titled– ‘The Desire For Those Willing to Distinguish Religious Innovation from Islamic Mysticism’ – outlines a critical analysis of religious innovation and Islamic mysticism to shed light on the differences and distinctions between innovation and the tenets of Sufism.

It also seeks to put clarity to some of the misgivings surrounding the understanding and interpretation of the related texts in the Qur’an, and Hadith. The main objective is to bring divergent views on an intersection, thereby bringing mutual understanding and respect for divergence of views.

The second book delves in the rule of sending prayers to the Prophet (SAW). The book is centred on the on-going debate among Muslims about what, when and how to Islamic allies send prayers to the Prophet.

The third book, a collection of 70 sermons on various topics delivered over the years at Taqwa Mosque during Friday prayer, focuses on societal challenges and suggests solutions for them.

The imam turned author is both one of the most prominent speakers and Islamic scholars who regularly speaks on religious and other human issues.

He studied Islamic Law in Saudi Arabia. As with Arabic language, Jah is also well versed in English language and runs a regular Islamic column at The Point newspaper, as well as holds regular talks on QTV and Q-radio, amongst other platforms. He was once appointed Amirul Hajj.
