According to Mr Ceesay, he has been observing people during his daily fieldwork and interactions and realised that there is a significant gap in the implementation of health and safety policies.
Ceesay who made the remarks in an interview with The Point, added that the gap is particularly evident in their daily operations, encompassing workplaces, transportation and food handling services. He therefore highlighted the pressing need to enhance safety measures in the country.
He recommended that the Government of The Gambia implement mandatory measures, compelling both State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) and private institutions to adhere strictly to health and safety management policies in their daily operations. He said this must include establishing clear responsibilities within organisational administration to ensure effective compliance.
He indicated that in an era where the well-being of individuals is paramount, the nation should embark on a collective journey towards a safer future.
He highlighted the need for the government and stakeholders to convene a national dialogue to raise awareness and sensitise the public about the critical importance of health and safety concepts in our day-to-day lives.
The initiative, he stated, will seek to instill a culture of safety, ensuring the protection and well-being of every individual within their diverse societies.
He added that it will also avail authorities the opportunity to talk to the youth of the country to stay away from “kush” and other substances harmful to human health.
