The Association of Gambian Manufacturers recently held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Senegambia Hotel.
The members used the meeting which brought together manufacturers among others the opportunity to elect new executives for the association.

The meeting was also used to discuss some pertinent issues concerning the association.

Abdoullahi Jammeh, deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE) in his remarks highlighted the roles of manufacturers in the economic development and prosperity of the nation.

He added that the Ministry has enjoyed a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship with the association.

According to him, "Since the establishment of the association over a decade ago, we have worked collaboratively to promote our nation's industrial growth and economic development."

He noted that the private sector is of significant importance to the country's national development plan, serving as a fundamental element of sustainable development across all sectors of the economy, while fostering entrepreneurship investment and innovation.

He went on to say that the manufacturing sector plays a big role as a driver of economic growth, job creation and industrial transformation.

Admittedly, he stated that the ministry is aware of the current constraints that the manufacturing sector is facing.

DPS Jammeh therefore called for collaborative efforts to address the underlying issues and restore vital vitality to the manufacturing sector.

He noted that among the challenges the sector faces are high cost of electricity charges, limited access to land for industrial purposes and inadequate infrastructure. These constraints, he further said not only impede the expansion and modernisation of the sector but also erode its ability to compete in regional and international markets.

He reaffirmed the government's commitment to address the challenges in separate phases in collaboration with stakeholders.

Farimang Saho who was elected new chairman of the association presented on the key milestones, achievements and contributions of the association.

Muhammed Sillah, elected vice chairman gave a brief history of the association. Mr Hydara was elected as treasurer while six other people were also elected as executive members.
