The project which cost about D100, 000 came is a dream come true to many in the area in view of the poor state of the roads especially in the rainy season.
At the inauguration, Sheriff Manneh, president of Global Climate Vision, described the construction of the bridge as ‘timely and laudable’ for the community of Abuko as its environs.
He expressed his foundation's readiness to support the community to have a proper footpath.
"It has been a challenge for the association at the beginning but due to our effort and commitment, the bridge is completed and ready to be used." he said.
He equally challenged youth to be ready to assist their community rather than wait for government's intervention.
Also speaking, Momodou Manneh, coordinator of Global Climate Vision, said there are many projects in the offing, further calling on Gambians and philanthropists to support the foundation help fight environmental issues.
Lamin Sanneh, the assistant Public Relations Officer (PRO) lamented the poor state of roads, citing that most people around the community cannot access health facilities, markets and other businesses due to the poor state of the roads.
"Global Climate Vision is not only concentrating in Abuko but a nationwide association to support communities and fight Climate Change." he said.
Therese Sanneh, a native of Abuko, expressed the new life changing state the new bridge would bring about in the area.
"The road has always been a problem for them for many years, especially when it is raining at night. We will stay awake throughout the night."
Ebrima Ceesay, a resident of the community, expressed similar sentiments.
He thanked Global Climate Vision for the job, saying the community faced a lot of challenges especially during the rainy season due to the poor state of the roads.
