The soldiers were in a convoy heading to Mankamang Kunda to join the president, who left earlier to commence his annual leave.
“The United Democratic Party is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic motor vehicle accident involving the personnel of the State Guard part of the presidential convoy,” UDP stated in a stated signed by the party leader, Lawyer Ousainou ANM Darboe.
“On behalf the national executive committee, the central committee and on my own behalf, we express our deepest condolences for the great loss of young Gambian lives and pray for a speedy recovery for the hospitalized.”
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the chief of defense staff, H.E President of the republic and to all Gambians. We pray that all those who mourn are comforted by Almighty Allah, the Most Merciful and the Beneficent. The deaths of young people in the service of their nation are particularly harrowing, because we believe they have their whole lives ahead of them full of infinite possibilities.”
“The party also sent their thoughts and prayers to the relatives and friends of the fallen soldiers, at this very difficult time for the bereaved families,” it concluded.
Similarly, People’s Progressive Party (PPP) also extended similar condolences to the bereaved families. “The Secretary General and Party Leader, Hon Kebba E. Jallow, the Central Committee and general membership of the PPP extend our condolences to the families of the deceased, The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), friends in The Gambia and abroad.”
“We pray that Allah grant the departed souls ‘Jaanatul Firdaws’, and a speedy recovery to those in hospital Ameen,” it noted further.
