The graduation began with an introduction ceremony, and biography reading of Karamo S. Bojang, a prominent guest; Momodou Jallow, Gambia High Principal and guest speaker, Nana Grey-Johnson.
The ceremony was a lively, educating and entertaining event from its inception to the end.
Momodou Jallow, the Principal of Gambia Senior Secondary School in his remarks highlighted the tremendous efforts and contributions the school continues to make towards the development of the Gambian educational system.
“We continue to work hard to make Gambia Senior Secondary School a unique and a centre of excellence worthy of emulating and hence our Comprehensive Strategic Plan for the school,” he said.
Mr. Jallow delved deeper into their educational plans to provide quality learning for both students and teachers. These plans he added include improving students’ performance, furniture, additional computers and printers for the student service centre, the clothing and textile lab, construction of classrooms, replacement of chalkboard with white boards, computer lab, staff development, extra curricular activities, establishing relationships with institutions, among others. He also emphasised on the important roles of teachers.
“The sacrifices, love, perseverance, and care teachers inculcate within their students have shown us the right path in which great men have built our nation. It is teachers who mould our character and personality and show us the right direction which leads us to our final destination. Without teachers both moral and knowledge will suffer,” he further said.
Principal Jallow concluded by thanking parents for their unwavering support, encouragement and understanding towards their children’s education.
Karamo S. Bojang, special guest who is also an alumnus of Gambia Senior Secondary School shed light on his transformational journey, experience and educational career over the years.
According to him, ex-students of Gambia Senior Secondary School are the best. Mr Bojang said that they have contributed a lot to the development of the school by constructing the best computer lab in the country.
He advised the class of 2024 to form an association and come up with ideas on how to give back to the school in future.
Mr. Bojang said that his vision is to see Gambia Senior Secondary School go digital in all aspects.
The ceremony came to its last rung with words of wisdoms from the honorable guest speaker, Nana Grey Johnson.
Mr. Grey Johnson chanted words of affirmation along with the class of 2024, emphasising that, “Children are the servants of our tomorrow.”
He quoted Wole Soyinka, who once said that “When the higher forces are corrupted, you need the counter balancing of the strong force of integrity from below.”
He therefore encouraged students to underline the word “integrity” as their term of reference, noting that they should turn a new page into developing our nation rather than raid it.
The event finally concluded with graduants excitedly receiving their deserving awards, and praises from teachers, families and fellow students who joyously joined the merriment in their celebration.
