The Gambia Standards Bureau (GSB) on Thursday, 23rd October 2025, joined the global community in commemorating World Standards Day at a ceremony held at the Metzy Residence Hotel in Kololi.

Although the international observance of World Standards Day traditionally falls on 14th October, the GSB’s local celebration was held slightly later, under the theme: “Standards for the SDGs”. The event brought together over 30 members of the Gambia Painter Association, who participated in presentations highlighting the Bureau’s mandate and the importance of implementing standards across sectors.

Delivering the opening remarks, Amadou G. Jallow, Principal Standards Officer at the GSB, emphasised the government’s commitment to creating a level playing field through the development and promotion of standards. “With these standards, you will be able to implement your work more effectively,” he stated.

Jallow noted that the event aimed to familiarise painters with relevant standards to ensure quality, safety, and sustainability in their craft. He reiterated that the Bureau was established to develop standards for products and services, while also offering related support services.

Sarjo B. Camara, Public Relations Officer of the Gambia Painter Association, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Association’s dedication to preserving and promoting the country’s cultural and artistic heritage.

He acknowledged the significance of World Standards Day in fostering global citizenship, cultural exchange, and community development. “As painters, we believe in the power of art to inspire, educate, and bring people together. We strive to create vibrant works that reflect the beauty, diversity, and resilience of our Gambian culture,” Camara said.
