Speaking at the presentation, DDYF Federation Manager, Alieu Mendy, provided an overview of the organisation’s growth, noting that it was previously a community-based organisation but has now been officially recognised and registered as a local NGO in April 2026 by the NGO Affairs Agency and TANGO.
He highlighted that DDYF operates in partnership with ChildFund The Gambia as its major donor and focuses on improving the welfare and protection of children and youth in Kombo North and South. The federation’s interventions are guided by three key priorities: ensuring healthy and secure infants, promoting education and confidence among children, and developing skilled and engaged youth capable of contributing to national development.
Mr. Mendy revealed that DDYF currently supports 3,477 vulnerable children, out of which 2,131 have secured sponsorship, leaving 1,346 still needing support. He used the opportunity to appeal to individuals and organisations to assist in sponsoring the remaining children.
He explained that the hygiene materials distribution is designed to improve sanitation among families, reduce illness linked to poor hygiene, and support caregivers in maintaining clean environments for children. “This initiative will not only complement the efforts of parents and caregivers but also instill pride in children through improved personal hygiene,”he said.
The items distributed include 1,200 packets of laundry soap, 600 bottles of bleach, and 600 branded plastic laundry pans, all targeting 600 children enrolled in DDYF’s sponsorship programme.
DDYF reaffirmed its commitment to working with communities, partners, and philanthropists to expand its impact and ensure that vulnerable children are given the opportunity to grow up in safe, healthy, and supportive environments.
