The historic gathering, organised by descendants of the same lineage, marked a significant moment of re-connection to the land where their ancestors once lived.
The Danso Kunda Family, made up of over 500 people from various parts of the country, traveled to the village of Boraba, where their forebears once thrived. The trip, which was carefully planned over several months, was one marked by celebration of family bonds, culture, and the preservation of heritage.
Welcoming the group on arrival last Friday 21st December 2024, the villagers, many of whom are distant relatives, first observed a Quranic recitation session and stories of the past.
Elders from the village shared their knowledge of the family’s history, recounting tales of ancestors (DEMBO DANSO) who ruled the village during the Colonial era.
The visitors, many of whom had never set foot in the village before, expressed a deep sense of belonging and pride in reconnecting with their roots.
In an interview with The Point, Bayahya Danso, president of the Danso Kunda family, explained that the visit to their ancestral village was to reconnect with the roots that have shaped their history and legacy.
He further elaborated on the foundation of the family union and its development plans which include setting up different committees for the betterment and sustainability of the family.
Danso acknowledged that the journey was not just a return to their past, but a celebration of the traditions and values that have been passed down through generations.
“Dansos were ever prominent. Thus, together we should honour our heritage, strengthen our bonds, and look forward to building a future that respects the wisdom of our ancestors." he implored.
Olimatou Danso, one of the founders of the Danso Kunda Family Association, explained that the purpose for the formation of the family association, saying that they did not intend to just form an association that will only focus on festivals and events, but an association that will focus on agriculture and business in order to help members.
She revealed that among their future activities is to rehabilitate the old settlement of Dembo Danso in order to restore, adding that they will collaborate with the National Center for Arts and Culture because the history of Dembo Danso is very important for the whole country.
