CHNs, others discuss primary health care in Sami

Community Health Nurses (CHNs) and Multidisciplinary Facilitation Teams (MDFTs) in the Sami district of the Central River Region recently convened a day’s sensitisation on ways to improve primary health care services in the district.

The event held at the Karantaba Health Centre also sensitize the public on the roles and responsibilities of Village Health Workers (VHWs), Village Development Committees (VDCs), Community Health Nurses (CHNs) and Multidisciplinary Facilitation Teams (MDFTs).

Welcoming the gatheirng, Lamin Jammeh, Officer-in-Charge at Karantaba Health Centre, advised participants not to focus on the monetary gains and forget about the knowledge that was discussed during the meeting.

‘Improved primary health care calls for concerted efforts that is why everyone have a role to play.’ he stated.

Muhammed Lamin Bah from the Primary Health Care Unit, explained that materials like mobile phones, tablets and other items given to CHNs, VHWs and OICs is designed to help improve primary health care in the community.

The trainings conducted for Village Health Workers and birth attendants, he added, is all geared towards improving primary health care in communities.

He revealed that similar trainings for traditional birth attendants is in the offing.
