The University of The Gambia Science Students’ Association (UTGSSA) recently engaged students of Muslim Senior Secondary School in a discussion on the university framework.
The outreach was part of efforts to promote educational awareness and guide students toward informed academic and career choices.
The sub-association has long been championing student-centred educational initiatives at the basic and secondary levels.
During the engagement, students were exposed to various departments and units under the Division of Physical and Natural Sciences at the University of The Gambia, including the programmes offered and the career opportunities available.
Heads of units took turns to introduce their respective departments and provide insights about them. The presentations broadened students’ understanding of science-related disciplines to help them make informed decisions about their future academic pursuits.
The team also highlighted the admission requirements and academic expectations for students seeking to enrol in the Division, stressing the importance of dedication, discipline and preparation in achieving success at the university.
The outreach received a positive reception, with many describing it as an opportunity to bridge the gap between secondary and tertiary education through firsthand information on higher education and career prospects.
