Brikama Social Development Association, a registered non-profit organisation comprising natives of Brikama both at home and abroad, has donated a funeral van to the Governor of the West Coast Region for onward delivery to Bulundala. The presentation ceremony took place at the governor’s office on Monday.

For years, Brikama has struggled with the absence of a dedicated mortuary van, forcing families and hospitals to improvise transport arrangements for the deceased. The donation marks a significant step towards addressing this long-standing challenge.

Association President Lamin Bojang explained that the van is intended to ease both the financial and emotional burden on grieving families, while ensuring that the deceased are transported with dignity.

The chiefs of Brikama North and South, Lamin Mondo Jatta and Dembo Juju Bojang respectively, described the donation as a form of Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity), noting that it provides crucial infrastructure for communities. They emphasised that the mortuary van will substantially reduce the emotional strain on families during funeral arrangements, and commended the association’s members for their commitment to community welfare.

Governor of the West Coast Region, Ousman Bojang, praised the association’s vision and generosity. He highlighted that the new van ensures sanitary, private, and respectful transport of the deceased from hospitals, homes, or morgues to their final resting place.

“This initiative guarantees that the final journey of our loved ones is marked with respect, hygiene, and community support,” he said.

The mortuary van is expected to serve as a vital resource for Bulundala and surrounding communities, reinforcing the importance of collective action in addressing social needs. For Brikama Social Development Association, the donation reflects its ongoing commitment to improving the welfare of its people both at home and the Diaspora.
