The administrative secretary of Road Safety and Driving Standard Association (RSDSA) has discosed that their 2030 target to reduce road deaths and injuries in the country can only be achieved ‘if more efforts are put together.’

Njie Baldeh, who was speaking in a recent interview with The Point, acknowledged that this lofty ambition as set out in their 2030 agenda with regards to road safety are possible ‘if governments invest in the right actions.’

According to data from the recently launched Global Status Report on Road Safety 2023, over the past decade, 10 countries achieved at least a 50 percent reduction in road deaths and 85 achieved reductions between 10 to 49 percent.

This Global statistic, he added, ranks The Gambia at eight position in terms of road accidents, a position that is of great concern for a small developing country like The Gambia.

To that end, he called on all Gambian to work together in order to minimise road accidents.

The road safety association, he said, is ready to work with all stakeholders to make sure efforts are put together to reduce accidents in the country.

“We have started working with international road safety organisations such as the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety in Geneva and the International Road Safety Professionals in Spain to put more efforts together to help The Gambia in terms of road safety equipment and trainings,”  he said.
