As The Gambia heads towards its presidential election, the integrity of the voter register has emerged as a constitutional flashpoint. Allegations of fraudulent documentation and weak verification systems are fueling concerns that the foundations of democratic legitimacy may be at risk. The Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Sambujang Njie, has disclosed that the Commission received a total of 1,600 objections during the supplementary voter registration exercise.

The Member of the National Assembly for Banjul North Constituency, Hon. Modou Lamin B. Bah, has called for urgent and coordinated action to address recurring flooding in Banjul, following a near 24-hour flash flood that submerged homes, businesses, roads and walkways across parts of the capital city. Speaking in an interview with The Point newspaper, Hon. Bah described the August 5th flooding as the heaviest rainfall experienced in Banjul since 2022, warning that the situation could worsen if long-term solutions are not implemented. “Banjul experienced a near 24-hour flash flood, the heaviest rainfall we have seen since 2022,” he said.

Key stakeholders led by the Gambia Federation of the Disabled (GFD) have converged for their quarterly meeting under the Disability Inclusive Pathways Project to discuss possible measures to empower persons with disabilities in The Gambia. This was in line with promoting inclusive education and social inclusion, with a specific focus on children (girls and boys) through targeted interventions that foster greater inclusion.

Leaders of the National Unity Party and UNITE Party have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), forming a strategic Alliance ahead of the December 2026 Presidential election. In a similar vein, influential women mobilizer Tina Faal has also joined UNITE in the build up to the December Presidential race. The strategic Alliance with NUP was formally signed on Tuesday, 4th August at the Paradise Suites Hotel, bringing thousands of supporters of both parties.
